The Yeditepe University Hospital Radiology Department is equipped with the most advanced hi-tech devices available to modern medicine.
Medical Imaging Equipment:
All medical imaging at Yeditepe University Hospital Institutions are collected and digitally stored in one center. After evaluation, they are again digitally archived with the concerned reports and sent to all hospital units over the hospital’s intranet network. Information and knowhow exchanges are facilitated by the fact that this center is linked to other international centers. The wide range of options afforded by PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and RIS (Radiology Information System) are all available to the hospital. Yeditepe University Hospital’s imaging units work on a paper- and film- free basis.
The state-of-the-art angio equipment at the Department of Interventional Radiology offers diagnostic services as well as treating numerous vascular diseases without the need for surgery.
The center also houses a research laboratory that was the first of its kind to be established in Turkey.
As Yeditepe University Hospital Imaging Center, we are proud to serve all our patients from around the world with the most advanced technology and equipment and our highly experienced team of specialists and technicians.
Our Imaging Center is equipped with the most advanced equipment available to modern medicine including 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance (MR) devices with digital virtual features, breast coil MRI, 64 row detector Multi Slice Computerized Tomography (MD-CT), PET/CT, Gamma Camera-SPECT (dual head), Flat Panel Digital Angiography (DSA), Digital Fluoroscopy, Digital Direct X-rays, Digital Mammography equipment, Bone Densitometry equipment, 4-D Ultrasound, Doppler Ultrasonography, Portable X-ray and C-Arm technology. Our objective is to achieve rapid accurate diagnosis in the light of the latest scientific and medical technology and knowledge with our team of radiologists and nuclear medicine specialists who are highly experienced in their respective fields, and efficiently to refer patients to the appropriate doctors for rapid treatment. As well as accurate and rapid diagnostic services, our Interventional Radiology unit carries out all kinds of minimally invasive procedures using the latest technology.
Revolutionary developments in medical imaging are proceeding with astonishing speed in line with those in the field of computers. It is no longer enough to evaluate films on their own or to attempt a diagnosis on the basis of morphologic examination of organs or tissues. Our clinicians expect definitive diagnoses based on quantitative data from our screening units. These days, in addition to morphologic organ screening, Molecular Imaging techniques deliver quantitative data about all kinds of pathologic tissue, as well as the metabolic and functional characteristics of tumors, on the cellular and even the molecular level. The PET/CT equipment at our center is able to determine precise localization by evaluating elevated metabolic activation of tumors anywhere in the body. Areas of maximum vasculature within the tumor (or in other words the most malignant part) can be determined during functional MRI and MR Proton and Phosphorus Spectroscopy imaging; tumors can be sub-grouped by looking at the molecular type and quantity within the tumor and classified according to degree of malignancy.
This data facilitates more detailed and reliable diagnosis. Moreover, by examining the effectiveness of treatment, the tumor’s metabolic activation and chemical and physical changes, it can be examined at the molecular level immediately. The need for biopsy for diagnosis is progressively decreasing; it is possible that in time, the need for such invasive and sometimes time-consuming methods will be entirely removed by genetic and molecular biology working in parallel with advances in the imaging and screening.
Functional MRI techniques are also serving to image the areas of the brain concerned with vital functions, which in turn allows the maximum degree of surgical removal of brain tumors without harming the brain.
In another first for Turkey, and with a view to maximizing the benefits of our center’s advanced technology equipment, two physics engineers with specialist training in imaging are about to work at our laboratory – one of them an Associate Professor at New York University. As recognized scientific leaders in the field abroad, they are set to initiate clinical studies in collaboration with doctors at our imaging center that will contribute to developments in world medicine. As well as applying the technologic data obtained in studies to our patients, this work will establish a fresh research environment as befits our status as a leading university hospital, ultimately contributing to the establishment of Turkey’s first ‘Molecular Imaging Research Center’ at Yeditepe University Hospital.
Thanks to our Center’s 3-Tesla MR equipment and specialized breast coil MRI, we are able to perform breast MRI screening and MR guided interventional breast procedures.
Our objective as Yeditepe University Hospital Imaging Center is to compete with the world’s leading universities in applying the latest imaging techniques, developing innovations for the benefit of patients in Turkey and from around the world.
Training and Research
2 Professors (Heads of Department), 3 Assistant Professors working with a Radiologist, 4 Radiology Research Doctors, 12 Radiology Technicians, 1 Research Technician, 2 Nurses, 3 Reporting Radiology Secretaries, 5 Radiology Patient Counselors, 3 research teams and 1 Assistant Healthcare staff member work full time at the Yeditepe University Imaging Center. The Center works 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
